Promotores de Salud are health workers who are in the community. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognize the importance of contributions of Promotores in reaching vulnerable, low-income and underserved members of Latino/Hispanic populations. The World Health Organization, refer to Promotores as individuals that works in health promotion, which is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions.

Promotores de Salud had been supporting communities since at least fifty years, becoming a key
component of health systems and society. They are trained individuals that possess abilities and skills to communicate and establish a relationship base in trust, dignity, and respect with community members. Promotores de Salud are people that demonstrate with their acts how much they care about people in need.

Their value to U.S. healthcare has been recognized as an important resource to address health disparities by promoting and supporting healthy behaviors in hard to reach populations.

Promotores de Salud can assist you when it comes to setting up your baby’s checkups and doctor visits. They can also help with getting your baby on a vaccination plan. If you don’t have health insurance, don’t let that stop you. Promotores can help you with or without insurance.
